Internet Resources for the Fine Arts

   The Jacoby Library has many useful books on visual arts, including the Encyclopedia of World Art, and books on the arts of specific nations , ethnic groups, artists and schools. Some online resources include the following sites:

    An amalgam of museum pages, pictures, and information on artists.

Southeast Asian Images and Text
    From the University of Wisconsin; currently includes the Philippines only, but more is coming!

National Gallery of Art
   Virtual tours through 44 collections of the Washington, DC, museum.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art
    A virtual tour of the largest art musuem in the United States.

The National Museum of American Art
    Part of the Smithsonian Museum system, with good searching abilities.

The Tate Gallery
    The national collection of modern (post-1500) art.

The State Hermitage Museum of St Petersburg, Russia
    A new way to see this distant jewel.

San Francisco Fine Arts Museum
   Index and images of 60,000 images.

MoMA (Museum of Modern Art)
    Valuable resource for 20th-century art.

Dictionary of Symbols
    Over 2,500 ideograms and graphic symbols identified and described.

Frank Lloyd Wright
     Pictures of his work and quotations from the architect. Very slow.
