In 1979, as a young associate pastor from Richmond Heights, Mo., Cardinal Dolan studied for his doctorate at Catholic University of America, in Washington, D.C., and stayed at a house owned by the Society of the Divine Word (SVD). Timothy Lenchak, SVD, president of Divine Word College. “Cardinal Dolan has a certain fondness for the SVDs that he met while he was in Washington, especially for Fr. Tom Krosnicki, SVD, and he seems to have a willingness to be a bit missionary by helping this small college educate future missionaries.”

Proceeds will go to the Divine Word College Student Scholarship Fund, which benefit every student, especially international students. Cardinal Dolan’s visit will also help the college continue to show that it is more than “that building with all the flags on Highway 20.” DWC is part of an international Catholic missionary order, the Society of the Divine Word.

“Cardinal Dolan has a very wide view of the world, with frequent contact with the Vatican, so he has a good idea of what’s happening in the church today,” Lenchak said. “In a gentle way, his visit will help remind people that Divine Word College plays an active role in the global Catholic Church.”
