Dr. Taylor grew up in the Midwest loving books and words. After a summer course in French at the Sorbonne, she attended Miami University of Ohio, and Ball State University.A teaching fellowship took her to Denver, Colorado, for doctoral studies in creative writing and American literature. She taught at the University of Denver and the Colorado Free University. She’s been teaching all her professional life—students ranging from members of the Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwa tribe and Hmong immigrants at a small Catholic college in Northern Wisconsin to conventional liberal arts writing majors in Iowa.In 1989, Divine Word hired her to coordinate a revision of the General Education Core. She’s brought insight and experience to many Divine Word initiatives--accreditation review, Writing Assessment, establishing a Sustainability Committee, and design of the Intercultural Studies Major central to Divine Word’s mission to prepare missionaries for the 21st century. Her colleagues elected her five times to serve a total of fifteen years on the Board of Trustees.Though proud to serve Divine Word in many ways, Dr. Taylor most treasures her teaching awards.
