Father Nick Hien Nguyen was born in Vietnam. He immigrated to the United States in 1981 and settled in New Orleans, Louisiana. His first encounter with the Society of the Divine Word was in 1984 when he attended Divine Word High School Seminary at East Troy, Wisconsin. After graduating from DW High School Seminary, he attended the University of North Dakota and rejoined the Society of the Divine Word at the Theologate in Chicago in 1992. Fr. Nick professed his first vows in 1994. During his graduate studies at Catholic Theological Union at Chicago, he went to Taiwan for his Cross-cultural Training Program experience for three years. Father Nick professed final vows as an SVD in 1999 and was ordained a priest in 2000. Immediately after ordination, he worked as a vocation recruiter at Divine Word College Seminary for a year, and then returned to Taiwan for four more years. Before coming back to Divine Word College Seminary in 2011, he served for three years as Parochial Administrator for the Chinese Catholic Community in the Archdiocese of Washington, DC.
