Born and raised in Ames, Iowa, Evan graduated from the University of Iowa with a Bachelors’ degree in History in 2010. Following graduation, he traveled to Vietnam to teach English as a Second Language. His original intention was to only stay for one year, but after falling in love with Vietnam he ended up spending over six years there. In 2017, while living and working in Dubuque, he was invited to teach at Divine Word as a substitute, and he is very happy to return here for the 2018-19 academic year.

Evan studied in the city of Mysore in South India during the 2008-2009 school year. He completed a 2 month teaching internship at a school for tribal (adivasi) children, which he considers to be the beginning of his education career. After graduation in 2010, he lived and taught in Vietnam on and off until July 2018.
