A grant from the Dubuque Racing Association (DRA) helped Divine Word College improve the safety of all swimmers through the purchase of an automated external defibrillator (AED) for the pool area. The grant also assisted with the purchase of a pool cover to increase the energy efficiency of heating the pool.
“The college swimming pool is here for everyone to use – the college community and our friends and neighbors,” said Fr. Tom Ascheman, SVD, president of the college. “We want to thank the DRA for helping us make our swimming pool area more safe and energy efficient.”
A DRA grant of $3,000 contributed over one-half the cost of the project.
The Dubuque Racing Association Ltd. (DRA) has been a vital part of the Dubuque community since its inception in 1985. The DRA holds the license for both the greyhound-racing and casino-gaming operations of Mystique, and is the co-licensee for the Diamond Jo Casino. The DRA distributes 100 percent of winnings after expenses; with 50 percent going to area charities, such as through the annual DRA grants, and 50 percent going to the City of Dubuque.
