Born and raised in the Philippines, Fr. Paul joined the SVD in 1991 and finished his BA Philosophy at Christ the King Mission Seminary in 1995, but eventually left the seminary after his Postulancy year. He then took graduates studies in psychology while working as a teacher for special needs children and a counselor for typically developing children. However, he shifted to music and became an instructor of voice at the University of the Philippines where he earned his Bachelor of Music in Voice degree. He was also a classroom music teacher, a choral conductor, a church musician, and had his private studio for piano and voice. He performed in concerts and recitals and essayed a few major opera roles like Reverend Olin Blitch (Susannah), Uberto (La Serva Padrona), Ben (The Telephone), Dottore Malatesta (Don Quixote), and Padre Damaso (Noli Mi Tangere).
In 2010, Fr. Paul moved to Chicago to continue his formation and theological studies at the Catholic Theological Union where he finished his Master of Divinity with World Mission concentration in 2016. He spent a year in Central Australia for Cross-cultural Training Program. Performance opportunities never eluded Fr. Paul and he has performed here in the US, Australia and in the Philippines even when he was in formation and even now as a priest.
Fr. Paul professed his first vows in the SVD in 2012 and perpetual vows in 2015. He was ordained priest at Techny, IL in 2016 and was assigned to the US Southern Province but worked as the coordinator of liturgical music, a spiritual director, and a formator at Divine Word College until he moved to Washington, DC in 2018 to pursue Master of Music in Vocal Performance and which he finished in 2020. He came back to DWC in January 2021 as an instructor of music and a formator.
