ESL Lecturer   

 

 

Position description:  
 

The Intensive English Language Institute at Divine Word College in Epworth, Iowa is accepting applications for a lecturer position in English as a Second Language (ESL). A successful candidate will be given a choice of teaching either at 9-11am Monday through Friday, or at 2-4pm Monday through Friday, beginning August 15, 2022 till December 8, 2022. A contract is renewable every semester, under agreed conditions.

Courses may be at various ESL levels from 1 (beginner) to 8 (low-advanced or pre-college), multi-level, integrated skills, or focus specifically on reading, oral communication, or writing. Successful applicants will demonstrate a commitment or willingness to commit to working within a fast-paced, academic-oriented intensive English program.

 

 

Qualifications:  
 

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in one of the following fields: English, Linguistics, Speech, Education (specializing in bilingual education/ESL or cross-cultural education); or a bachelor’s degree in any field with an endorsement or certification to teach ESL in a public-school district, or a CELTA (Certification for English Language Teaching to Adults).

Other Requirements:

  • Successful experience of ESL lesson planning, teaching, and assessment
  • Proficiency with technology to support online, blended, and face-to-face teaching
  • Ability to teach students across a wide diversity of cultures and ages
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with others in a team environment

Representative Duties:

  • Provide academic instruction to students strictly following learning outcomes
  • Assess oral and written communication skills through appropriate assignments and activities
  • Advise students regarding effective study skills and learning resources
  • Maintain current, accurate records of syllabi, attendance, student academic progress, course materials, and curriculum inventory forms
  • Collaborate with faculty and ESL director on a regular basis to assess and revise student performance indicators for each course
  • Assist in proctoring ESL placement and end-of-term tests
