Divine Word College is pleased to present ANTITHESIS, a solo exhibition of photographic works by Greg A. Cooper, on display from January 14 through February 15, 2026. ANTITHESIS marks the first time that seasoned photojournalist Greg A. Cooper pushes beyond the conventional boundaries of photographic art.
Cooper is a faculty member in the School of Communication and Journalism at Eastern Illinois University. He recently completed a Master of Arts in Studio Arts at EIU, where he reached a new depth in the exploration of photography as a conceptual and expressive medium, work that culminated in the creation of ANTITHESIS.
“Rules do not limit my art, nor is it confined by a viewer’s ability to comprehend what is in the photograph,” said Cooper, who challenges the viewer’s expectations of clarity and precision through this body of work. His intent is to provoke visceral, emotional responses, inviting his audience to engage through the right hemisphere instead of the analytical mind. “I find it arrogant for humanity to believe that beauty exists only within clarity,” said Cooper, who has shifted from the literal space of journalism into the imaginative, memory provoking realm of the arts.
The exhibition was curated by Erin LaBelle, a photographer, writer, psychospiritual coach, and arts educator based in Dyersville, Iowa. LaBelle is the curator of Divine Word College’s Weyland Art Gallery, and she teaches photography, photojournalism and art in the college.
The exhibition is free and open to the public. The Weyland Art Gallery, located at 102 Jacoby Drive SW in Epworth, Iowa, is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday or by appointment. For more information, please contact Erin LaBelle at (563) 876-3353 or elabelle@dwci.edu
